The hip hop scene in the city of Ottawa has been heightened by the lyrical prowess of MC, God Bless; A child of the golden era of Hip Hop. From a very young age God Bless was a dedicated student of the microphone masters like KRS ONE, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane & Kool G Rap! These Hip Hop legends shaped and molded Bless into the lyrical assassin he is today.
1999 was God Bless’s break out year, it saw him showcased on a compilation album called “Land of the Lost” where he was featured on three tracks which were produced by Nine Planets Hip Hop. This brought about a big opportunity and he opened for The Roots at one of the Nations Capitals biggest summer attractions- Bluesfest. This thrust him into the spotlight in Ottawa’s Hip Hop community as a real contender as well as opened the doors for more shows. This was just the tip of the iceberg for the affair that would commence over the years between God Bless and Hip Hop.
Though the Ottawa Hip Hop scene can sometimes be described as dry and stagnant, God Bless seemed to have little to no issue gaining notoriety and the attention of the key players in the scene. For the decade following his inauguration into Ottawa’s Hip Hop community his tracks were featured over a dozen times on various mixtapes including; Dj Ducats – Street Journey Vol. 1-2 & 3, Dj Homicide – Rap Monster Vol.1 with Rusty Juxx from Boot Camp Clik, (The Lox Dj) Dj Killah Touch – We Are The Streets Mixtape, and “Nothing On Me” which was featured in the movie “Overcoming Will”. Among the list of features God Bless also crossed his share of stages, opening for renowned acts like Dead Prez, Papoose, Pumpkin Head & Royce da 5’9. This added an impressive momentum in natural succession to Blesses resume and allowed him to work toward bigger ventures.
Midas Touch (the exclusive producer) and God Bless have been working tirelessly in the studio on a new album to continue to bring 100% pure hip hop to his loyal fan base. The album, fittingly entitled “KILL THE EGO FEED THE SOUL”, will drop in late October early November 2015. The first single the album is entitled ” Get The Fruck Out”, can expect to see the video for the single sometime in October 2015.
Handz On Records, an Indie Label headed by God Bless (CEO) wants to bring back the true organic hip hop sound and sign and manage artists that reflect the same style. God Bless has definitely made a name for himself and has managed to carve out a brand with his raw uncut flocabulary, while paying homage to those who laid the foundational bricks before him. With his stylized rhythmic beats & lawless laden lyrics it is no wonder why he is referred to as: God Bless; The last of a dying breed.
