Macklemore Needs to Stop Already

Let me start this post off by saying that I am not a fan of Pop Music. That is not to say that I don’t understand it’s place but I am just not a fan. So with that being said I am okay with artists making the music that they want and if it happens to be pop do your thing, I will just choose not to listen. Okay so I have got that off my chest and lets get to the topic at hand, which is Macklemore and his latest single “Downtown”.

bruno mars

Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk

This track and Macklemore are for some reason categorized as Hip Hop and it needs to stop and stop right now. Not only is this Downtown track extremely corny it is also just bad and was written in a pop version a little while back and it was called “Uptown Funk” and the artists name was Bruno Mars not certain if anyone has noticed the resemblance.

Macklemore recruits legendary artists such as Kool Moe Dee, Melle Mel and Grandmaster Caz for his video which I guess pays some form of tribute to the history of Hip Hop. So this is when it starts to get confusing because this has moved so far away from Hip Hop that it is actually doing it a disservice. It needs to be stated that just because you put legends in your video or mention in your track that does not make you a Hip Hop artists it just makes you someone that put legends in your video.

macklamore

Last year when Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ The Heist won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album over Drake’s Nothing Was The Same, Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, …

It took me a while to really be able to write this article because many of the things that went through my head said who cares let him do whatever music he wants. I think the breaking point was the VMA awards when I had the opportunity to see some of the shining Hip Hop artists and what I got was Macklemore once again, a little bit over a year after he won Hip Hop album of the year over Kendrick Lamar and Drake. So the question now is who should I be mad at Macklemore? Well I suppose not he is just one of many artists that I don’t care for the music that they make. When artists like Vanilla Ice and PM Dawn claimed to be Hip Hop artists I just chose not to listen to them so what is the big difference. So I guess I need to be mad at the Hip Hop Industry and the Music business for making artists like this the face of Hip Hop when we have so many other artists that deserve this. I guess Macklemore is just making music that he knows will hit the top 40 and sell a lot and doesn’t care that it is killing the culture regardless if he is putting legends in the video or not. So once again I have come to a cross roads in my life who am I truly mad at?

And here is the answer this track is complete garbage so Macklamore needs to own that and the fact that it is even being labeled as Hip Hop is also BS so it is actually simple I am pissed at him for making this crap and I am pissed at the music Industry for labeling it as Hip Hop and lastly I am extremely pissed at the radio stations that have no musical integrity and will just play whatever is flashy with big lights. So Macklemore instead of paying legends that got jerked back in the day by the way a few bucks to be in your video to try and justify your Hip Hop branding, take the time to give us a Hip Hop worthy single.

Okay so I feel better getting that off my chest.

Respect the art of Hip Hop or it will not last forever
