Very seldom in the short but complex history of hip hop, have there been MCs who have lived up to the hype and pressure of following up a bona fide classic freshman album with something even better, more mature, and most importantly, culturally and socially relevant. Kendrick Lamar rises to the challenge with his sophomore album – To Pimp a Butterfly release almost 2-months ago, has left even the most superficial of hip hop fans, let alone music aficionados, desperately seeking for a chink in Kendrick’s amour to pull him down from his number one spot on everyone’s hip hop top 5 MC list. What more can be said here that has not already been said about this MC that takes risks and leaves themselves vulnerable on each track? Only this, expect a lot more from Kendrick Lamar in the near future and for years to come. The West Coast has been resurrected, long live King Kunta.
